We all know healthcare has traditionally been reactive in nature, with the focus being on treating symptoms as they arise. However, with the shift towards value-based care, it has become increasingly important to identify and address the underlying root cause of health issues. Unfortunately, Medicare and Medicaid currently do not provide any reimbursement to healthcare providers for addressing SDOH. This lack of financial incentive makes it less likely for providers to prioritize addressing SDOH.
Initiatives such as ACO REACH have highlighted the importance of addressing SDOH for improved patient outcomes. However, more action is needed to ensure that healthcare providers prioritize addressing SDOH.
